Kid-Friendly Dark Movie Posters

Categories: Art | Design

Growing up, my mom let me rent any movie I wanted. This woman could easily be on a “Coolest Moms of the Century” list. She didn’t blink when I grabbed horror movies from the video shelf. Sure those movies terrified me, but had so much fun watching them, especially with friends.

While I enjoyed horror films as a kid, I’ve since developed a bad taste for the genre. The current horror scene is flooded with so much garbage that I can count the good ones on a severed hand.

But even with the quality decline, I couldn’t resist whipping up some “dark” movie posters that would’ve drawn me in as a kid at the video store. Imagine kids flocking to a Pixar-esque Chucky or Hellraiser. Or what about a dark 2D Disney animation feel for “The Exorcist”? A little innocent lure never hurt anyone, right?

So, while no rational parent would ever sign off on these dark classics for family movie night, these playful posters offer a fun nod to enjoying scary movies as a child.
