Creating an AI Instagram Influencer

Categories: Art | Design

For my latest project, a pal threw down a challenge and suggested I create an A.I. influencer. There’s been an insane amount of AI-generated profiles on Instagram, and many people can see that those images are “generated” but I wanted to push the envelope and craft something so refined you’d pause and wonder, “Is this a real person?”

After 3 intense days of tinkering, I brought “Serena” to life trying to make her as authentic as I could. She can now switch outfits and locations faster than you can double-tap a photo.

I even made my own GPT that generates a fitting caption each time I upload a photo.

I’ve been flooded with messages from men (And ladies) trying to strike up a conversation who are convinced she’s real. I’ve resisted the urge to create a chatbot to respond due to my ethics.

And I can create video of her as well if I wanted, but that’s much more time-consuming so I’ll leave that for a later stage when the A.I. community figures out how to do that process much more quickly and perfectly.

This entire process of creating images of her with caption and posting it is now a well-oiled machine, running 90% on automation, I still have to click the button to post or schedule it.

So, I guess I succeeded with this challenge, but there’s a chill to the success. It’s disconcerting to witness the power at our fingertips…how easily this could be used for deception, especially in the pursuit of financial exploitation.

What’s scary is that soon this ability to create such realistic characters/avatars will be commonplace, these implications will alter the very essence of social interactions and it will definitely raise questions about identity and trust in our digital age.

Take a look at what’s possible on Serena’s Instagram @serena_sky_cameron
