Custom Mixtape

It’s no secret that I’m not a fan of Afrikaans music, and neither is Christi.

Which is why I found it hilarious to make her a Mixtape full of it.

Here’s one of the songs I made as a thank you for everything she does around the house, from laundry to cooking to cleaning.

Remember the struggle of making a Mixtape in the ’80s? It wasn’t just about having a hi-fi. You needed a dual cassette deck. You first had to record songs from the radio, praying the DJ wouldn’t open his big fat mouth at the start or end of it. Then you had to carefully transfer each recorded song from multiple cassettes in real-time to a fresh cassette, playing and recording over and over again.

It was the ultimate way to show someone you either liked or cared for them.

Now, with machine learning, we can make our own cringeworthy Afrikaans songs with custom lyrics and “inside jokes”.

What a time to be alive!
